The meetings with the area community leaders have been very positive according to the professional fund-raiser.  We will continue and start with the fund-raising aspect of this project shortly.

The SRBC board voted to purchase the Kurth property by extending our option to December 1. We expect to be in the midst of a fund drive at that time. A professional has been hired. Several meetings of enthusiastic groups have been scheduled.

HALLELUJAH! SRBC has come off "Dead Center" and is once again on track! We have paid "earnest money" to secure the Kurth property and have hired a professional to help us raise sufficient funds to proceed with our plans. Delton Torno has completed a new sketch of the conservatory and plot as we envision it.

We are making plans for a membership and major fundraising drive.
Our discussions regarding the possible uses for the Kurth building consume a good portion of board meeting time.

The KXMC Home and Garden Show plans are formulated and we will again show and man our exhibit with volunteers. As in previous years, we will have a drawing for a door prize of a cactus dish garden.

At the January meeting, after installation of the new officers, the board voted to proceed with acquiring the Alan Kurth property. After all the necessary terms are met to the Park Board's satisfaction we will do some serious negotiating on the purchase.

The annual meeting of the Conservatory is scheduled for December 20,2007 according to the Bylaws.
The board deliberated over the logistics of having this important meeting this close to the holiday vacation and voted to dispense with the December meeting.
The next meeting will be January 17th when we will have our election. All of our members will be urged to attend!

Our joint meeting at the View with NoAH (Northwest Association of Horticulture). This occurred as a result of Hostfest needing rescheduling of meetings.
Terry V. and Mary H. presented the recent activities of SRBC and sold a few bags. Erv Johnson conducted the NoAH meeting.

The Kurth Building negotiations are snagged! The Park Boar is still very supportive, however.
Shopping bags are selling.
We need Volunteers. There are many ways that our supporters can put in some time at home, or on their computers to help speed up our process and provide more members and more public exposure. Contact any of the officers.

Negotiations continue with the Park Board regarding the Kurth building.
Shopping bag sales are under way.
Terry is doing publicity appearances Wednesday, August 22 on KMOT and a live segment on KXMC on Friday, August 24.

Negotiations with the Minot Park District continue regarding the
Kurth property.

Several meetings have been held regarding the possible purchase of the Kurth property by the Minot Park District. Proponents are anxious to proceed with the project as providing a visible start for a display of the Vitko cactus collection. Opponents fear that the effort put into renovating the building to make it suitable will only dilute the effort and money that have been expended thus far.

Our meetings are now being held at "The View", 2905 Elk Drive, where more space is available.
Grants Committee continues to seek grant moneys.
The Kurth Building is still being discussed. Another meeting with interested parties will be held on May 22.
New possible fund raisers will be planned and reported by committee at the next meeting.

Terry Voeller and Betty Trzpuc attended an emergency Park Foundation meeting in early April. Some board members had requested reconsideration of the Kurth building purchase. They represented SRBC and answered several questions that satisfied the Foundation Committee so no change was recommended to the Park Board.
SRBC will have a display at the "Salute to Seniors" celebration .at the State Fair Center on May 8, 9:30 to 3:30 pm.

Contributions continue to accumulate. At the board meeting a decision to place all but $1000 into a savings account.
The SRBC booth at the H&G Show was well received. Kathleen Schultz won the cactus dish garden door prize. More e-mail addresses of those wishing to receive the newsletter were added.

We met at "The View" where the management graciously allows free use of a meeting room. Plans are in place for the Home and Garden Show booth on March 3 and 4. More discussion on grants where we expect to concentrate our efforts in the coming year.

Lauri Hopwood opened the meeting at the Vincent Methodist Church with eleven members and two guests attending. Committees were appointed to finish some grant applications and press for additional memberships.
Since the last board meeting, there have been two meetings and a site visit to the Alan Kurth building. After approximately an hour of discussion, a motion to decline the Park Board's offer passed with nine ayes and two nays.
SRBC will again have a booth at the spring Home Show.

Our annual meeting and "pot luck" supper followed by election of board and officers was held in the Medora Room at the View retirement home.
The treasury continues to grow, but much more will be needed. New business to be reconsidered includes the Alan Kurth building on East Burdick.

Our 10.6 acres designated by the Minot Park District has been plotted and marked by stakes and rock piles. There will be adequate space for the planned building and surrounding gardens. The next meeting will be at The View and will include election of officers and board members.

MDN had a news story to kick off our fall membership dr Terri has two TV appearances scheduled. Letters are prepared and ready to send next week.

 Strategic Planning
The regular meeting night was appropriated for the Appreciation Party. We met at Traiser's home where we discussed our progress and prioritized our needs for the future. Immediate needs are to raise grant moneys, maintain liaison with the Park Board and contact our congressional delegation for help (at our next opportunity).

Mr. Torno presented his preliminary sketch for a building which would resemble a star-like arrangement of several greenhouses arranged around a central reception area.
"Appreciation Night" set for August 17 in Roosevelt Park with a buffet meal followed by a tour of the Vitko cactus collection. Don will conduct the tour and describe his acquisitions.

Architect, Delton Torno introduced to the Board. He works with a landscape architect, Bob Woerner, who is also interested in our project.
Lauri and Nancy are working on details for "Appreciation Night."

Meeting was at the Vitko Cactus greenhouse. Plans are underway for a night of appreciation for all our contributors. An architect, Delton Torno, will join our group on a pro bono basis. Our fund continues to grow.

Most of our efforts recently are involved in upgrading our software, publications and plans for upcoming events this summer. The newsletter, published by Kris, new brochures by Mary and more corporate contacts for the Cactus 911 drive.

Cactus 911 money coming in slowly. Committee is producing folders, brochures and plant care tags. Date has been set for celebration of end of Corporate Fund Drive--August 17, 2006. More personal contacts are needed. Volunteers are encouraged to call any of the officers.

There was a pause over the holidays, but the Corporate Fund drive continues to gather funds.

Issue No. 1 of Volume 1 of SRBC NEWS hits the streets this week. It is being sent by e-mail to those whose addresses we have. A few will be sent through the US Postal service. If you know anyone who would like a printed copy by mail, please let us know.
We now have our full board. Bob and Nancy are new co-secretaries. The remaining officers were reelected.

Contributions are still coming in. Holiday doings require a let-up in committee activity. More contacts, and more grant pursuits will be made after 2006 is under way.

"Cactus Rescue 9-1-1" Finance Committee continues to contact prospects and several nice contributions and pledges are in! We continue to seek the $1m to enable construction to begin.
Steve Wharton, nominating committee chairman, is finding candidates for the election next month. Volunteers will be warmly welcomed, as there are more
duties than the present board can manage.

"Cactus Rescue 9-1-1" is off and running! Several contacts have been made and funds are starting to trickle in. New members of the committee are showing their enthusiasm and helping in many ways. Some problems with the web site have been remedied. Work on site beautification has begun with perennials planted at the sign. Grant submissions will continue.
Clyde resigned as secretary due to job pressures and time constraints. Secretarial duties will be shared by volunteers on the board until election this fall.

Our treasury stands at $3184, with over $7000 in the Park foundation fund, plus additional funds in the Park foundation to be used for landscaping.
Terry Lauri and Bob met with two members of the Park Board, clarifying our relationship.
The corporate fund appeal will have its kick-off following the next meeting of the committee. Letters will be sent to potential contributors.

Treasurer Lauri has updated the membership list from disks from Dave Traiser.
The Community endowment fund grant was denied. Other avenues to maintain the web site are being sought.
The building site was discussed. Some enhancement will be started this fall with plants donated by members and Steve Wharton will be asked to help plan.

New Member, Lauri Hopwood, has agreed to serve as our treasurer. She was elected at this meeting.
Plans for a corporate fund appeal are progressing. Clyde had found a list of businesses to contact via mass mailings..

Discussion continued on temporary greenhouse leaning toward a smaller greenhouse that will suffice for display of cacti and have space for office and reception. Grant request has been submitted to Community Foundation.
